Keedo Cares for all Kids

When Mama Amelia Poswa took in a destitute child almost 40 years ago, she never imagined that her new adopted family would grow to what it is today. Staying true to its name, Sakhumzi, which means to 'build a house', Mama Amelia built not only a house but a home in her community. Today, Sakhumzi offers a loving home, education and a bright future to the 95 children (aged between 0-21) who live there. Sakhumzi also offers a daily crèche facility for an additional 150 children from the community.

Keedo realised that Mama Amelia, with her heart as big as Africa, was definitely one of a kind. That is why we decided to focus our social responsibility efforts to assist this worthy cause. To kick start this effort, Keedo launched the Keedo Cares project in May 2007. The Keedo Cares project consists of a special T-Shirt (designed with an all over animal print) that is sold in Keedo stores. R10 from each T-Shirt sold is set aside for Mama Amelia and her kids. With the funds Keedo was able to purchase a brand new stove, fridge as well as pots and pans for Mama Amelia and deliver it to her in August. The new season's Keedo Cares T-Shirt will hopefully fill some more gaps in the Sakhumzi household.

Says Mama Amelia "What makes me happy is to see a safe, happy child. My calling is to look after children because that child is the future. At the time I never knew it would go on for so long. I started with just a few and in no time there were 15, 20. I am proud to be mom to all of them and in the end no child leaves Sakhumzi until he or she can fend for themselves".
