About Keedo Kids Clothing

After the birth of my twins, I had a hard time finding clothing that was fun, comfortably shaped, colourful, and soft against the skin. So I decided to create personalised clothing of a high quality - clothing good enough for my own offspring.

Two years after the birth of Henno and Carmia, I had a near fatal ski accident which made me realise that existence was to be cherished. During my recovery I had time to take stock of my life, dreams, my talents and goals. Shortly after, the wheels were put in motion for the first store in Cape Town which opened in October 1993. I called it Keedo after my own adorable "Keedos".

A year later, I received the award for the "National Entrepreneur Business Woman of the Year" - the first in on ongoing list of successes for the company. I was joined by my business partner, David Robertson, in 1997 - one of the bigger steps in a series of many. Since then the Keedo brand has kept growing by leaps and bounds every year and is now putting smiles on faces in 16 countries across the globe, and creates employment opportunities for over 200 people in the local community, not to mention the extensive social awareness projects implemented from the head office in Cape Town. This makes me very proud.

The Keedo Way of Thinking

  • Letting kids be kids through our designs and the material we use. We only use cotton that is breathable and not irritating to little sensitive skins.
  • Giving back to our kids by supporting projects through our Keedo Cares project.
  • Giving back to society by striving to create local job opportunities where our work force can be close to home (keeping an eye on their own kids).
  • Looking after mother earth through our designs and educational tags we hope to instil a love for nature in our kids.

The Keedo Ethos

Keedo's clothes are not only aesthetically unique because of the prints and styles used but bring with it a conservation ethic that sprouts directly from the passion of Nelia Schutte, the founder of Keedo.

"We draw our inspiration from nature and view our work product as happiness rather than clothing", says Nelia.

Over the past 14 years the company has grown from infancy to one of the leading children's clothing manufacturers in South Africa. Although Keedo's roots are in Cape Town, it exports globally to Europe and America.
